The company was formed in May 1990, initially as Arnold Hill and became a member of HLB international. The same year in August it obtained its Audit Licence from the Ministry of Finance.

Then it either operated under its brand as Management Consultants or through other shareholding related entities under international Branded Networks.

Over the next 20years in Poland the practice was built up twice and the business merged into other Audit firm. The first was that Arnold Hill’s business was later merged into BDO in Poland. Next the remaining part of the business was built into a practice Banded under Moorestephens. The Moorestephens practice changed its Network alliance to Baker Tilly and later merged its business into the second Baker Tilly firm in Poland.

Currently Management Consultants is rebuilding its practice.

 

Historically clients in Poland included: Hewlett Packard, Polish Copper (KGHM), Computer Associates, Costa Coffee (Coffee Heaven), Hochtief Construction, Booz Allen, more than 10 companies quoted on the Warsaw Stock exchange (including their IPO’s) and several on the secondary market. Other clients included: regional banks, insurance companies, Share Broker, Open and Closed end funds and their management companies.

Born in London in 1952 to Polish parents who came to the UK as displaced persons.

 

After gaining “A” levels worked for IBM in the UK at Wembley, Chiswick, Havant and Bristol. Studied at the Open University gaining a second class honours degree in Accounting and Finance.

 

Then trained in a small firm of Chartered Accountants, Gorrie Whitson & Co. in central London specialising in the entertainment business. Moved to qualify in 1985 with Hacker Young (assisted the Partnership in forming the UHYI Network). Client work included not only the UK, but also Germany and the USA. Specialised in multi jurisdiction consolidations involving different GAAP’s and international tax avoidance planning. Multinational (multicurrency) group consolidations carried out manually on 14 column spreadsheets and later in Lotus 123.

 

Late 1989 travelled to and settled in Poland. Set up a practice in the summer of 1990 together with a UK Audit Practice, Arnold Hill, advising investors (including from the UK, USA and Israel) on doing business in Hyperinflationary conditions. Poland was a multicurrency cash society in a manual bank transaction economy with hyperinflation reach 70% in one month.

 

In 1992 first foreigner in over 50 years to qualify as a Polish Auditor, receiving the prestigious membership number C01 or Foreigner number one. In 2003 obtained an MA in Economics and Accounting at the Higher School of Economics in Kielce, Poland. For 20 years in Poland regularly made public presentations and lectured at University. Wrote articles for the English press in Poland.

 

1990-2014 as Polish auditor, started and sold two Audit practices. Was the Local Polish Partner in the many Networks over the period including: HLB, BDO, Moore Stephens and Baker Tilly. Clients included; from start-ups, SPV’s to those quoted on Stock Exchanges. Specialising in FAS (M&A, DD, valuations) and client care. These Audit and Advisory assignments gave experience in the problems FCO’s and CEO’s face running businesses. Duties involved attending regularly European and World Association/Network Conferences for 20 years giving a wide international perspective on understanding the needs of fellow Chartered and other qualified Accountants working and living outside of the UK.

 

A specialisation was setting up tax efficient Charities (Foundations, Associations and Religious) and later being appointed the Honorary Treasurer. Elected onto several Boards including the British Polish Chamber of Commerce (won, the Best Chamber in Europe 4 times when Treasurer) and the Moses Schorr Foundation. Audit Committee Member of the Swiss Chamber and Auditor of AmCham for several years. Sits on the Board of his local Religious community.

 

ICAEW Contact Member for Poland and Council Member Europe, sit on Institutes Members and Commercial Board where policies and services are discussed and recommendations made to Main Institute Board.

 

Retired 2014 from main practice work, but still keeps a small practice going to cater for longstanding clients including those from the USA, UK, Germany, North Africa, Ukraine, Italy and Israel. Invested in Ukrainian Companies switching their operations into the EU. In addition currently assisting foreign start-ups to get going and helping those companies in distress to recover.
